A MESSAGE TO THE SOUTHERN POVERTY LAW CENTER AND ITS LEFTIST ALLIES

The League of the South has been in direct and blatant opposition to the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) and its leftist allies from our inception in 1994. Indeed, the political, moral, and social climate that spawns such an organization as the SPLC is the reason that the League came into existence in the first place. Therefore, it comes as no surprise to the League leadership that the SPLC would issue their recent condemnation of us as a “hate group.” Their charge is laced with the usual intolerance and disregard for reasoned opposition.

Let us examine this further. The SPLC’s Summer 2000 “Intelligence Report,” a 53-page document, is the effort of a supposed non-governmental entity engaged in petty espionage. Their motives are not explicit, but are nonetheless plain in light of the use of the so-called “intelligence” they gather. Their agenda is decidedly leftist, and they operate and cooperate with government agencies, news media, and other left-wing organizations.

The League of the South was founded to promote the devolution of power and the preservation of Southern culture, and we are not surprised that we have become a target for leftist totalitarians such as the SPLC who hate all resistance to centralized power and the preservation of all organic, traditional cultures. We believed, and still do, that it is our duty as Christian Southerners to speak the truth, and especially in the face of mounting opposition.

The SPLC’s document, on one hand, has not a particle of hard evidence to support its accusations and aspersions. It relies on common faulty suppositions and an emotional appeal. If Morris Dees and his ilk were merely opposed to the League’s ideas, then why wouldn’t they use a logical, reasoned argument to attack our ideas? Instead, they attack the men who hold them. This tactic is the last resort of scoundrels.

The League, on the other hand, in its official literature, has mounted a factual and reasoned attack on the status quo that begins with scholarship and sound analysis. Our published material chronicles the advance of the leftist agenda, deals with historically-documented evidence, and puts forth a traditional, rational, historical, and Constitutional case for our stand. That our story does not get heard, much less debated, can be attributed largely to the success of government schooling. Government schools have perverted or ignored the truth for generations and have contributed mightily to the “dumbing down” of the population so that clear thinking and logical argumentation on important issues has become impossible. Most Americans are lead around by the nose (enslaved) by anyone and everyone who can throw around emotionally charged rhetoric.

In a truly free country, there would be no need for snoop groups such as the SPLC. An organization such as the League would be allowed to stand or fall on the merits of the ideas it propounds. That the tide of the League is rising in spite of the current national political, moral, and social climate, should give great encouragement to those of us who wish to see a return to sanity and Christian gentility in the debate over the direction our country should take. That the League of the South has made a big enough impact to draw the hysterical condemnation of snoop groups and thought police is indeed a badge of honor. Let it be known that the League acknowledges the SPLC’s designation of us as a “hate group” as firm evidence that they hate us and will stop at nothing to destroy us.

Rest assured that the League of the South will continue its mission with all the more determination and joy. If we were not doing our job, groups like the SPLC would simply ignore us. Again, let us wear their condemnation with great pride. Moreover, let us be like the great Robert E. Lee, known for bringing his work to completion. Let us finish what we have started, however long it takes and in the face of increasing opposition from the minions of the American Empire, not relying upon our own strong arms but upon our faith that the truth shall prevail.
